Open-LIMS provides functions to support the user while planning his experiment. Experiments are represented in a template-based project structure. The user selects a given template for his project. It defines the frame of the project. In case of a complex experiment structure, Open-LIMS allows to create a layered project structure and the composing of parent and child (sub) projects.

After the user has created a project, he can schedule the project with project management features of Open-LIMS. This features allows the user to create different tasks. The tasks support the user to finish the project. During the work with projects, the user sees the progress of every project task directly. Moreover, the leader of the Laboratory has a better overview about the deadlines and the progress of experiments of his laboratory staff.
